Phytoglycoproteins and Human Health: Current Knowledge and Future Applications

نویسندگان

چکیده

Over the years, humans have relied on plants as sources of nutrients and bioactive compounds that promote health wellness. Interestingly, drug discovery has benefitted immensely from use phytochemicals derived food medicinal plants. Phytoglycoproteins (PGPs) are plant-derived proteins with sugar moieties covalently linked to amino acid side chains, formed by glycosylation during posttranslational modification polypeptides. Several studies in last two decades, including cell culture animal studies, documented a variety health-beneficial effects PGPs, hypolipidemic, wound healing, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, anticancer properties. Despite prospects, there is dearth information pharmacokinetics toxicity possible induction immune reactions, potential stereospecific variation PGPs isomers their physiological functions. Further exploration multifunctional glycoproteins will position them strong candidates for development nutraceuticals functional foods.

Human bocavirus: Current knowledge and future challenges

Human bocavirus (HBoV) is a parvovirus isolated about a decade ago and found worldwide in both respiratory samples, mainly from early life and children of 6-24 mo of age with acute respiratory infection, and in stool samples, from patients with gastroenteritis. Since then, other viruses related to the first HBoV isolate (HBoV1), namely HBoV2, HBoV3 and HBoV4, have been detected principally in h...

Human 3-D tissue models in radiation biology: current status and future perspectives

In this review, we discuss the use of a variety of 3-D models (particularly 3-D skin, lung, breast and endothelial) in radiobiological research and highlight the differences in responses compared to 2-D culturing conditions (monolayers). We review the characteristics of existing 3-D models and aim to point out the substantial advantages 3-D cultures provide for modern radiobiology. In particula...
